How you can support

  • Ask what quantity is being accumulated and what the units of the integrand are.
  • Ask: “What is the region, and are we revolving or using cross-sections?”
  • Have them sketch and mark the slice (dx or dy) before writing an integral.
  • Praise a correct volume setup (πR², shell, etc.) before computing.
  • For particle motion, ask when velocity is positive/negative and what that means.
  • Keep one justification sentence: what the integral represents in the story.

What not to do

  • Do not evaluate a definite integral without confirming limits and integrand match the story.
  • Do not mix dx and dy inconsistently with the bounds.
  • Do not forget π in disk/washer methods.
  • Do not confuse displacement with total distance traveled.
  • Do not skip absolute value when a quantity must be positive (distance, area).
