Exam Strategy
Readiness Check
You are ready when you can (1) write an explicit model from stated restrictions, (2) build a simple transform or piecewise rule, (3) calibrate a rational inverse model, and (4) evaluate/interpret in context with domain awareness.
Prep Sequence
1. Linear from two points (no calculator). 2. Quadratic vertex form from vertex + point. 3. One piecewise fee model end-to-end. 4. One $F=k/d^2$ calibration. 5. Apply set: three predictions with restriction checks.
On the Exam
- List the constraints you will use before algebra.
- Check the model at a given point.
- For piecewise, box the active interval first.
- For regression prompts: name the regression type, write $y=\ldots$, then answer the context question.
- State units when interpreting slope, max, or $k$.
Common Traps
- Algebraically correct model that fails a given point check.
- Evaluating the left piece at a right-piece input.
- Using $k/d$ when the context is $1/d^2$.
- Reporting a prediction outside a stated domain without comment.
