Exam Strategy
Readiness Check
You are ready when you can:
- Decide when a log model is appropriate.
- Build a model from two pairs or transforms.
- Use or interpret a log regression equation.
- Predict and interpret in context with Dom awareness.
On the AP Exam
- MCQ: choose the correct model form; interpret a coefficient; pick a prediction.
- FRQ: construct from data/context; predict; explain reasonableness (skills 1.C, 3.B).
- Often paired with Unit 2 inverse/exponential modeling contrast (2.5 / 2.6 ideas).
Tactics
1. Sketch or scan: equal $\Delta y$ with proportional $x$? → log candidate. 2. Prefer simplest form that fits given info (two points vs full transform). 3. If technology is allowed, write the regression equation clearly. 4. Predict, then check Dom and whether the value makes sense in the story. 5. State assumptions (range of data, continuous model).
Common Traps
- Exponential model when the story is actually log in $x$.
- Wrong base or wrong shift $h$.
- Prediction for $x$ not in Dom.
- Reporting calculator output without interpreting.
Quick Checklist
- [ ] Model type justified
- [ ] Construction method clear (pairs / transform / regression)
- [ ] Dom stated
