Exam Strategy
Readiness Check
You are ready when you can:
- Classify distance trends using r sign and monotonicity.
- Find relative closest/farthest points from monotonicity changes.
- Compute and interpret (Delta r)/(Delta theta).
- Estimate r using average ROC on an interval.
On the AP Exam
- MCQ: distance increasing/decreasing, extremum identification, avg ROC.
- FRQ: describe characteristics with data/graph support (skills 3.A, 3.C).
Tactics
1. Write the four distance rules on your scratch paper. 2. For tables, mark Delta r and Delta theta clearly. 3. Extrema need an increasing/decreasing switch on the interval. 4. Negative r: think |r| for distance from origin. 5. Support claims with two points or graph intervals (3.C).
Common Traps
- Inverted ROC fraction.
- Ignoring negative r cases.
- Confusing farthest with largest theta.
- Estimating outside the interval used for avg ROC without comment.
Quick Checklist
- [ ] Sign and monotonicity checked
- [ ] Distance trend stated correctly
- [ ] ROC = Delta r / Delta theta
- [ ] Extremum justified by switch
- [ ] Conclusion supported with data
