You are ready when you can:

  • State rows and columns of a matrix.
  • Decide if AB is defined and give product dimensions.
  • Compute entries/products using row-column dot products.
  • Apply results in simple contexts (3.B).

Course vs AP Exam

Course scope only (Unit 4 additional topic; not on the AP Exam). These skills still matter for Unit 4 coursework and readiness for 4.11.

Tactics (course assessments)

1. Write dimensions under each matrix. 2. Inner dimensions must match for AB. 3. Outer dimensions give product size. 4. For entry (i,j): row i of A dot column j of B. 5. Show one dot product clearly before full product.

Common Traps

  • Multiplying incompatible matrices.
  • Using column i with row j incorrectly.
  • Stating product dimensions reversed.
  • Arithmetic errors in dot products.
