Exam Strategy
Readiness Check
You are ready when you can:
- Decide if a rule is linear (4.12.A.1).
- Verify L(0)=0 (4.12.A.2).
- Compute Av and build A from basis images (4.12.A.4).
- Transform multiple vectors with a 2xn matrix (4.12.A.5).
- Rewrite rules in equivalent matrix form (1.B).
Course vs AP Exam
Course scope only (Unit 4 additional topic; not on the AP Exam). These skills still matter for Unit 4 coursework and readiness for 4.13-4.14.
Tactics (course assessments)
1. Check linearity: constant multiples only; L(0)=0. 2. Write input as column matrix. 3. Multiply A by v for one output. 4. Build A using images of (1,0) and (0,1). 5. For many inputs, form 2xn matrix and multiply once (4.12.A.5).
Common Traps
- Nonlinear terms or arbitrary constants.
- Row/column layout errors.
- Wrong basis images when building A.
Quick Checklist
- [ ] Linearity verified
- [ ] L(0)=0 checked
