Exam Strategy
Readiness Check
You are ready when you can:
- Test whether points satisfy an implicit equation.
- Graph by solutions or technology.
- Solve for one variable on a stated branch.
- Interpret sign of Delta y / Delta x for co-variation.
- Recognize horizontal/vertical intervals from zero rates.
Course vs AP Exam
Course scope only (Unit 4 additional topic; not on the AP Exam). These skills still matter for Unit 4 coursework and readiness for 4.6.
Tactics (course assessments)
1. Rewrite equation; identify what to solve for. 2. Make a small table of solution pairs. 3. Plot points; note missing branches. 4. Compare two nearby points for change ratio. 5. Align implicit, explicit, and graph views (2.B).
Common Traps
- Explicit solve shows only one branch.
- Wrong sign on co-variation ratio.
- Forgetting to check given points in the equation.
- Treating vertical line segments as functions y = f(x).
