What this standard means
Your child learns to model shapes in the world by building them from parts (sticks, clay balls, marshmallows & toothpicks) and by drawing shapes.
Why it matters at home
- Toothpicks and marshmallows: build a triangle/square

Try these together (this standard)
1. Build a triangle from three sticks (or lines). Draw one too. 2. Build a square. Check that sides look equal. 3. Model something in the room (door ≈ rectangle) with drawing or sticks.
Problems that show the connections
1. (Uses K.G.B.4) After building, count sides and corners to check. 2. (Uses K.G.B.6) Build two triangles and join them to make a bigger shape. 3. (Uses K.G.A.3) Build a 3D cube from clay/sticks if you can; draw a 2D square.
How you can help
- Process over perfection — wobbly triangles still teach
- Provide sticks of similar length for squares
- Draw in the air first, then on paper
- Photograph real-world models they copy
- Name the shape after building
- Keep tools safe and simple
